Whale Watch Kaikōura

Vessel graphics

Overview

A design commission translating Ngāti Kuri (Ngāi Tahu) narratives into large‑scale vessel graphics for Whale Watch Kaikōura—reinforcing cultural identity on the water and supporting an Indigenous‑led eco‑tourism experience.

Approach

We collaborated with Ngāti Kuri cultural advisors and the Whale Watch team to distil stories for each vessel, developed an illustration and livery system, prototyped at scale, specified marine‑grade materials, and coordinated fabrication and installation with signwriting partners.

Outcomes

A cohesive fleet livery that embeds cultural storytelling in the visitor journey, enhances on‑water recognition, and withstands harsh marine conditions—contributing to brand clarity and community pride.
