Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa
Front desk and atrium sail
Overview
A welcoming front desk and suspended sail for the National Library of New Zealand that expresses navigation, knowledge, and hospitality—bringing Māori narratives to the heart of the public atrium.
Approach
We designed and fabricated the work that translates wayfinding and voyaging narratives into form, pattern, and material detail. The desk anchors arrival and orientation; the sail spans the atrium as a sculptural guide, engineered for public use and daylight, fabricated with durable finishes and refined joinery.
Outcomes
A culturally resonant threshold and focal point that strengthens identity, clarifies the visitor journey, and embeds story in daily experience—creating a memorable first impression and a durable, low‑maintenance feature for the Library.
